BIG MOMENT

Blue midnight

silvery rain

in an hour

Big Moment

pulling in on the train

Three long years

he's been gone

in an hour

he'll be back

in my arms again

Big moment

pulling in on the train

Blue Midnight

silver rain

in an hour

he'll be back again

Big moment

pulling in on the train

Big moment

DIAMOND RIDE

Left everything I own

turned down this burning highway

I run from all I've known

into the sunlight I go

The cactus somehow rhyme

in the desert's vast whispered song

from distant echoes I hide

push the pedal hard and then I fly

Hushed land that's stretched and dry

a longer view than what’s behind

into white light I ride

where I can see the diamonds shining on me

I turned from all I've known

with the ancient sand I'm blown

into white light I ride

now I can see the diamonds shining from me

DIVE

Your war's over

no more soldiering

you can go home again

or so they told him

'You're colder now

when you hold me',

that's what I told him

as he was smoldering

You can't know him

unless you're a soldier, too

what he holds deep inside

he can't show to you

He's older now

though he's still drowning

they only taught him

how to dive, not swim

FAR AND NEAR  (©2010 Paul Marsteller & Gabe Rhodes)

Late at night

while you sleep

it's not as quiet

as it might seem

The Earth stretches tight at night

like a tin-can telephone line

if you listen

you'll hear

far and near

In the dark

where you dream

there is a brightness

that you can't see

The stars shine so deeply

with the secrets they keep

and though they seem so far

They're where we are

FEELS LIKE FALLING

It feels like falling

with nothing under me

I pass through light and dark

I can't see for all the sparks

Where I'm going

or how far I'll go

the further I fall

the less I know

But oh, oh

Here I go

I was alone

no one to call my own

A burning candle light

shining from my window

Then you came along

just like in a song

the more I know you

the less I know

But, oh,   oh oh oh ooh

Here I go

yeah, here I go

Oh, oh ooh

here I go,

here I go

It feels like falling

with nothing under me

I pass through light and dark

I can't see for all the sparks

Where I'm going

or how far I'll go

the further I fall

the sooner I'll know

But oh, oh, oh

oh, ooh oh

Here I go

here I go

FIRE SHOW

The embers flew through the coal black night

raining down a shower of little red lights

It was the first time I saw you

Oh, oh oh, (yeah) I saw you

Smoke and fire spewed a volcanic brew

the air was thick, oh, how my temperature grew

It was the first time I saw you

Oh, oh, oh (yeah) I saw you

The ground rolled around like it would crack in two

all the trouble seemed to be bubbling up from you

It was the first time I saw you

Oh, oh, oh, I saw you

Oh, oh, oh I saw you

Oh, oh, oh (yeah) I saw you

FUNLAND

Step right up and come on in

Chills and thrills galore

in store for you inside the doors

of Funland,

Funland

The coasters roll

the sky wheel spins

so buckle in, hold on tight

for the big ride of your life

Round, round, round

don't look down

Why ask why?

It's just a mystery ride

A thousand mile an hour spin

your heart will surely twirl and swirl

in this tilt-a-world

of Funland,

Funland

How time flies by

as we defy gravity

Round, round, round

don't look down

Why ask why?

It's just a mystery ride

HIDE AWAY

I dream of a white sailboat

floating in a hidden bay

where I go to watch the sun glow

on ribbon candy waves

Out of the storm, tucked in this cove

echoes playing in the air

where I can find the open window

(Oh) I always return there

(and) If you come with me

we'll feel the tides rise and fade

and if you stay for awhile

we can hide away

Hide away

Hide away

My heart longs for the other shore

over the far horizon

out past where the oceans roar

I hope that there is one

If you come with me

we'll feel the tides rise and fade

and if you stay for a while

we can hide away

Hide away

Hide away

Hide away

IN THE WIND

Almost before I step out the door

I feel the wind kick in

been years since I've

been swept up in,

and felt the thrill of that spin

A better kind of loneliness you find up here

as you float around

Funny thing, you find

you don't miss the ground

you don't want to go back down

I'm in the wind

There is no sound

Twirling without (a) care

I'm no where to be found

Almost before I stepped out the door

I felt the wind kick in

Funny thing, you find

you don't miss the ground

you don't want to go back down

I'm in the wind

and I make no sound

Swirl without a care

I'm no where to be found

THE LONG LIGHT

It passed by me along the beach

just beyond my reach

don't know what I was thinking

don't know what I feared

I lost to time

it didn't wait

it sailed on by me

took my chance away

That shining ship

that came for me

tonight it's gone away

back to the sea

I lost to time

when I delayed

and it sailed away

when I hesitated

Now it's just a long light on the sea

A long, long light on the sea

Though it's gone

the sea won't wash that light away

the darker the night

the more that light reminds me

Where I could be

what I should be

I lost to time

when it became

Just a long light on the sea

A long, long light on the sea

A long long light on me

A long, long, long light on the sea

LOOKING AT YOU

The night we met

a comet blazed across the sky

and even better yet

I watched it glow in your eyes

I guess you could tell I fell hard

I guess you could say it was in the stars

There was fiery blue

and colors that I never knew

I hadn't  looked up yet

cause I was busy looking at you

I guess you could tell I fell hard

I guess you could say it was in the stars

I remember you said

you'd have to wait five hundred years

to see this again

I said I hope I'm still seeing you then

I guess you could tell I fell hard

I guess you could say it was in the stars

MAGIC

Being born and raised

on the East coast

Oh, the West coast

seemed worlds away

Most of what I heard

about the state of California

supposed to flake off

into the sea

Then I found myself

on life's big highway

bound out West

to join a magic show

First I got sawed in half

then I do my disappearing act

We all make believe

there's such a thing as magic

But, hey,

just wait

I got a look

at California

And there was magic,

real magic

in the air

everywhere out there

and there was Magic,

real magic

in the air

everywhere out there

Magic,

real magic

in the air

in California

So now when I'm back

on the East coast

half my heart

has vanished away

There was magic

real magic

in the air

everywhere out there

And there was Magic

real magic

in the air

in California

NEON AGE  (©2010 Paul Marsteller & Simone Stevens)

Since I left home

days ago

I've passed through

many old towns

All have changed

and some have grown

Since I last traveled this road

The more I see

the more they look the same

Just different names

The lights

are getting brighter

the buildings

they're getting higher

I come from the open range

into this Neon Age

Some still rely

on night skies,

not city lights

When I'm done

what I need to do

that's where I'll be returning to

Seems like the further away I go

the better I can see my home

The lights

are getting brighter

the buildings

are getting higher

I come from the open range

into this Neon Age

I'm a little jaded

and a little afraid

as I look down

the road ahead

STRANGER

As much a stranger as when we met

as close as you want to get

Your heart's covered with steel

you wear it like a badge, but it's a shield

And what you feel,

you conceal

And what that reveals

you don't want to hear

There's a stranger in my arms,

a stranger lives in my heart

Still a stranger like when we met

You're as close as you can get

If my eyes could penetrate

I'd see you can't give what you can't take

And what you feel, is sealed

under lock and key

There's a stranger in my arms

A stranger in my heart

There's a stranger in my arms

A stranger lives in my heart

There's a stranger in my arms

A stranger

TURN

Turn

turn back to me

I'm the one who cares

Turn back to me

Hurts

yeah, it hurts so bad

you explain it all away

but it hurts so bad

Gone

you're gone away from me

What you didn't say

you just walked away

My world

turned 'round you

Now that I'm upside down

where do I turn to?

Turn

turn back to me

I'm the one who cares

Please turn back for me

Hurts

it hurts so bad

you explained it all away

but I hurt so bad

VIRTUE

Down in this well, with the change
Wishes didn't come true
left in this hole
with echoes of what we need to do
Light's gone
Dark's come
No rope left to climb up on
Our place isn't here
We need something to get back home

Virtue, virtue

We took a fall
when we were handed much
Then grabbed for it all
so here we are
Everlasting greed
always meets the wall
Time's up
Smile's gone
No one left to pass it on
Our path isn't here
we need to turn to get back home

Virtue, virtue

Virtue, virtue

Light's gone
dark's come
No rope left to climb up on
Our path isn't here
We need to turn to get back home

Virtue, virtue

Virtue, virtue

Virtue, virtue

Virtue, virtue

WHERE THEY ARE

It's freezing as I walk to town to use the phone

It's late and I'm out on this road all alone

The ice cracks under me though it looks so hard

Snowflakes in the sky where there used to be stars

Your phone just rings, but I know where you are

Three thousand miles and three time zones back home

Your voice sticks in my head just like a song

I keep hearing your words that I'm too strong

What pulled us together now seems to push us apart

So fragile where it once seemed so hard

Your phone just rings, but I know where you are

Three thousand miles and three time zones back home

I'll be here through winter, though I don't belong

Darkness comes early and the nights are so long

Things are just frozen right where they are

We'll see how it looks when the season thaws

Your phone just rings, but I know where you are

Three thousand miles and three time zones back home

WILD BIRD

There is a wild bird

calling from the tree

if you wanna be free

just follow me

And there is a train that's going away

whistles out my name

And there's a seat on that train

That waits for me

Carry me up

and take me away

to some other place

where it begins again

There is a dream I'm always in

seems so real

I'm lost in a house of mirrors

and I can't find me

Carry me up

and take me away

to some other place

where it begins again
